Learn Practical Skills in Food Growing and Market Gardening
Are you curious about organic food growing? Would you like hands-on experience in a market garden without committing to a full season?
Our 8-week practical market gardening programme is designed for people who are currently unemployed, out of education, or simply interested in exploring whether this line of work could be for them.
When does the programme run?
Each programme runs for 8 weeks on Tuesdays 9:30am – 4:00pm.
The first programme will be running from 5th May – 23rd June.
We will be releasing more dates for another two cohorts later in the year.
You can register your interest for our future programmes here.
What to expect?
This programme is rooted in real, practical experience. You’ll be working alongside growers, learning the day-to-day rhythms of a working market garden. Activities will vary depending on the season and the needs of the farm, giving you an authentic insight into commercial growing.
You’ll gain experience in areas such as:
- Soil health and composting
- Seed sowing and propagation
- Bed preparation and planting
- Crop care and maintenance
- Harvesting and veg box preparation
- Basic crop planning
Most learning will be hands-on, supported by some theory to deepen your understanding.
Why join?
This programme offers a broad introduction to market gardening, helping you decide if it’s a path you’d like to pursue. We can also support you in finding further volunteering or work opportunities in the sector.
You’ll be learning in a supportive, relaxed environment, with time to enjoy being outdoors, connect with nature, and work at a pace that looks after your wellbeing.
